---

The 5.7x28mm is a bottlenecked centerfire cartridge developed by FN Herstal that has become popular among owners of compatible semi-automatic pistols and personal defense weapons. Hornady Critical Defense ammunition brings a specialized bullet design to this cartridge with a 40 grain FTX projectile featuring a patented Flex Tip. The polymer tip is designed to promote expansion while helping prevent the hollow point cavity from becoming clogged by heavy clothing, addressing a common limitation of conventional hollow point bullets. Hornady also uses carefully selected propellants designed to reduce muzzle flash and manage recoil, with the Critical Defense line developed around the needs of personal protection applications.
