The 45-70 Government combines a long history with modern ammunition technology, and Hornady's LEVERevolution line was developed to give this classic cartridge a more aerodynamically efficient hunting projectile. The 325 grain FTX bullet uses Hornady's patented Flex Tip, allowing a pointed projectile shape that remains safe for use in tubular magazines. The soft tip is designed to expand on impact, while an InterLock ring mechanically secures the lead core to the jacket to help maintain bullet weight during penetration. Hornady also uses a specially designed jacket and secant ogive profile to control the expansion and improve the bullet's aerodynamic characteristics compared with traditional flat-point .45-70 projectiles.
