The .308 Winchester has become one of the most widely used rifle cartridges for precision target shooting, hunting, and military-style applications, and Federal Gold Medal Match ammunition is designed around the demands of accuracy-focused shooting. This Gold Medal Match load uses a 175 grain Sierra MatchKing boat-tail hollow point bullet, a projectile long associated with precision rifle ammunition. The BTHP design combines a hollow point with a boat-tail profile to provide an efficient projectile shape, while the 175 grain weight gives this load a substantial bullet configuration for longer-range shooting. Federal lists the Sierra MatchKing BTHP used in with a .505 G1 ballistic coefficient, making this a specialized .308 Match load rather than a conventional general-purpose FMJ cartridge.
