The crimped-case shotshell design gives Federal 22 LR Bird Shot No. 12 Lead Shot ammunition a specialized role among .22 Long Rifle loads, replacing the conventional bullet with a payload of fine No. 12 lead shot. Built around a 25 grain shot payload, this Federal rimfire shotshell is intended for close-range pest control and small-target applications where a spread of fine shot is more practical than a single projectile. The crimped case helps distinguish this load from standard .22 LR ammunition and gives it the purpose-built configuration shooters expect from a dedicated rimfire shotshell.
